Threat to child group

A PARENT and toddler group run by the Salvation Army for 18 years may have to close.

Marian Gooch has run groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays for children aged 20 months to three years and Fridays for newborn to four-year-olds at the Salvation Army Hall, in St John’s Street, Bury St Edmunds since late 1993 and has had as many as 20 families using each session, with a waiting list.

“Now we’re down to nine in one group and eight in the other, with children leaving at Easter,” she said. “If we don’t fill the places, we’ll have to think seriously about closing.”

She feels there is still a need for such groups, especially for new mums who might otherwise feel isolated at home. For details, call her on 01284 703354.
