Support group scoops £200

A GROUP which supports people suffering from debilitating pain has scooped £200 from a supermarket giant’s community scheme.

The Chronic Pain Support Group, in Bury St Edmunds, received the money after winning Asda’s green token scheme between June and July.

The funds will help the group develop its aims to grow and support future projects including arranging self management courses, organising a social event and booking speakers for its meetings.

Chairman Linda Reid said: “We truly appreciate all the support given to us by Asda. However, without the support of the customers we would not have achieved the overwhelming response that led to a winning result.

“As a self financing group we rely heavily on our own fundraising and the help and support from local community schemes so without such schemes in our community we would not succeed.”

Established in 2009, the support group is run by and for patients afflicted by chronic pain to create a ‘safe environment’ for those with the condition.

Its free meetings are held about every six weeks at West Suffolk Hospital.
