Stowmarket Town Council has outlined plans to spend £130,000 on improvement projects around the town.
Included in the sum is £20,000 to replace the town’s Christmas lights and £30,000 to refurbish a play area on Lindsey Way in Combs Ford.
The council also proposes to replace the town clock in the market place which has failed a number of times - including on Remembrance Sunday - and to refurbish the toilets on the recreation ground.
The money will be used over a two-year period.
Town clerk David Blackburn said: “There are some important projects got the town which we are proposing to deliver.
“We have to install a new town clock in the market place - it has been unreliable for a period of time and necessitated us gaining access through the bookmakers underneath to repair it - notably on remembrance Sunday.
“Our existing Christmas lights are now more than 35 years old and we are having great difficultly getting spare parts.
“We are also looking to refurbish the recreation ground toilets.
“That is the missing link of the jigsaw in providing a new skate park, ball park and play area.
“We are also looking at the possibility of building kiosks for selling refreshments which would fit in with the extensive use of the area.
“It is all positive news and it reflects the desire of the town council to undertake some high profile projects.”
Mayor of Stowmarket Anne Whybrow said: “The most important thing is having a town clock that works.
“It is amazing how many people use that clock and to keep it in time we have been having to get in the flat to keep it going.
“What we are trying to do is sort it so it can be dealt with by remote control.
“We are looking to keep the face clock face but with a different mechanism.
“The play areas are all getting so tired so it is important that we do that.”
