AN AUCTION featuring luxury prizes, once in a lifetime experiences and priceless sports memorabilia launches this weekend in memory of Sir Bobby Robson.
The bidding to acquire these one-of-a-kind lots will begin tomorrow when Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough auction begins online.
More than 130 lots are up for auction, including the latest generous donations from FC Barcelona and the Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Classic IX.
The chance to compete in the annual celebrity charity golf tournament, held in Portugal, and an opportunity to visit Barcelona’s Nou Camp to watch a game, attend training, meet the team and receive a signed shirt from manager, Josep Guardiola, have been added to the long list of items up for grabs.
The highest bidders can also win Jose Mourinho’s World Coach of the Year trophy, a signed LA Galaxy shirt from David Beckham and numerous tickets to sporting events.
The auction, which will run online for two weeks, until October 23, aims to raise £250,000 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
A glamorous fund-raising ball, organised alongside the auction, will be held at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, on October 20, in memory of Sir Bobby and breast cancer fund-raiser Sally Balch.
The auction, which has been backed by most Premier League clubs, including Sir Bobby’s former teams, Newcastle United and Ipswich Town, has also been supported by Prince Charles and Prime Minister David Cameron as well as Sir Alex Ferguson, Fabio Capello and Andre Villas-Boas.
Auction and ball founder, Gina Long, said: “We set out to raise as much money as possible for these two wonderful charities and as we launch this wonderful auction, I know we are heading in the right direction.
“I would now ask everyone to take a look at the wonderful auction list as there really is something for everyone. Please offer what you can to help make a difference to people suffering from this wretched disease.”
The events are fully supported by the Robson family.
People can register to bid online at www.sirbobbysbreakthroughauction.com from Saturday.
A full list of prizes and further information about the auction and ball can also be found at the website. To make a donation, text SBBA11 £3 to 70070.
