Mum Allison gets her skates on for MS charity
Allison Humphreys has Multiple Sclerosis and finds that rollerskating helps with her balance. She has arranged for CurveMotion to host a fund-raising event next Saturday to raise money for the MS Society and raise awareness of the disease.
A MOTHER of two who has multiple sclerosis (MS) is to stage a themed fund-raising event at a leisure venue in Bury St Edmunds.
Allison Humphreys, from Moreton Hall, was diagnosed with the disease, which affects the central nervous system, six years ago.
As a regular skater at CureveMotion, in Bury, the 40-year-old asked it to host an event in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, to raise money to help fund research into a cure and to raise awareness.
Mrs Humphreys, whose ‘incredibly scary’ ordeal has involved prolonged pins and needles in her feet, sight problems and difficulty walking in a straight line, said: “The MS can make me feel very tired and weak and, at times, I struggle to get out of bed. I find that rollerskating helps me to concentrate on my balance and is a great form of exercise.”
Next Saturday’s fund-raiser, for which people are urged to wear 1980s fancy dress, will run for all ages from 9.30am-6.30pm, with playframe and megaslides, and for the over 18s from 7pm-10pm, with a disco, quizzes, games and roller limbo.
A percentage of the entrance fees from those who dress up will be donated to the charity.
