Mulley’s plans new bus routes

A BUS company which operates in Bury St Edmunds is to extend its service following FirstGroup’s announcement that it will pull out of the town at the end of March.

Additionally, Mulley’s will introduce a new M11/M22 route, incorporating Southgate Street and West Suffolk Hospital.

While some journeys on its M44/M55 route will incorporate Beetons Lodge - the Tollgate Lane, Greengage bus stop - and an additional journey will be added at the start of the day to allow workers to link up with the M33 to Moreton Hall industrial area.

Jayne Munson, joint director of Mulley’s, said: “What we’ve put together is a more comprehensive route than what was there before so I hope people are happy with what we’re doing.”

All of the new routes will take effect on March 19, by which time a ticket allowing passengers to use any of Mulley’s routes within Bury will be available.

The M88 service, introduced in August 2010, will continue.

“Obviously time will tell but we’re a local company who knows the area and we’ve done what we think will work for everybody,” said Mrs Munson.

Yesterday, Stephensons of Essex announced it would be extending its service to operate hourly around Moreton Hall.

Cllr Guy McGregor, Suffolk County Council’s portfolio holder for roads, transport and planning, said: “I would urge Bury residents to support and use these services to help ensure their continued success.”
