Mapping out wildlife sites
AN INITIATIVE to encourage grass roots action to preserve wildlife is being launched tomorrow in Stowmarket.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has provided more than £400,000 to help roll out a community scheme across Suffolk to encourage more people to get involved in supporting their local wildlife areas.
The Networking Nature project begins tomorrow in the Market Place where people are invited to compile a large map of their favourite areas for wildlife and where improvements are needed.
The funding for the next four years will create four new roles at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust – three community advisers and one communications manager.
They will work alongside community groups and raise the profile of local projects. The aim will be for many of the local initiatives to become self sustaining after the project ends.
There wll be events in the trust’s Bradfield Woods as well as a family activity making bird feeders at St Peter and St Mary’s Church in Stowmarket and a community afternoon at Combs Meadow.
Papier maché models of wildlife are also on display in Stowmarket Library.
