Learning award nominations now open

NOMINATIONS for this year’s Suffolk Adult Learner Awards are now being accepted.

The awards, organised by Leap and the Suffolk Partnership of Informal Adult Learning (Spial), will celebrate the hard work and achievements by adult learners over the year.

Eight awards will be handed to winners at an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 17, at University Campus Suffolk. BBC Radio Suffolk presenter and honorary graduate Mark Murphy will compere the evening.

Nominations can be put forward in various categories including 65+ learner of the year, tutor of the year, learning at work, outstanding family learners and volunteer of the year.

There will also be two special awards presented for lifetime services to education and training in Suffolk and outstanding learner of the year.

Robin Hodgkinson, chairman of Spial, said last year’s awards ceremony was ‘a very uplifting and emotional experience’.

“The life stories of the award recipients demonstrated the value of informal adult learning, not only in providing learning opportunities, but also in transforming people’s lives,” he said. “Spial believes it is important to celebrate the diversity of learning in Suffolk and the extraordinary achievements of learners, projects, volunteers and tutors.

Miles Cole, Leap project manager, said: “The examples of how adult learning can transform people’s lives is a credit to all the tutors, volunteers, providers and learners and we are looking forward to recognising more achievements in this year’s celebration.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Leap website at www.leap.ac.uk or from the Suffolk Learning Consortium website at www.suffolklearningconsortium.org

All nominations must be received by 4pm on March 26 and should be emailed to leap@ucs.ac.uk or sent to Leap Administrator, University Campus Suffolk Waterfront Building, Neptune Quay, Ipswich IP4 1QJ.
