It’s a diamond day for Bill and Olive
Olive, 79, and Bill Ellis, 89, are celebrating 60 years of marriage on February 23 diamond wedding
A WOMAN who was told on her wedding day ‘it will never last’ is to celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday.
Olive Ellis was just 19-years-old when she married husband Bill.
They met while double-dating at a Phyllis Dixey show, during which Bill, a former farm worker and Ford test tractor driver, fell for his bride-to-be ‘straight away’.
Olive, now 79 with a short light bob, recalls Bill’s attraction to her long dark hair and says she fell for his easy going nature.
Despite looking forward to their big day, Olive is under no illusion that she will get an anniversary card from Bill, 89.

“He’s never believed in spending money on cards but he says if you want money there’s my wallet – I think I get a much better deal,” said Olive.
After moving from Essex to Suffolk in 1960, the couple – who have two daughters, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson – lived in Higham, Rushbrooke, Bury St Edmunds and are now settled in Thurston.
On their marital success, Olive – a former nurse at West Suffolk Hospital and carer at Cornwallis Court – said: “More than anything it’s being tolerant of each other and never going to bed on an argument.”
