Irresponsible dog owners are targeted by new order

Dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets while walking at a Beck Row nature reserve could be fined up to £1,000.
A ‘fouling of the land by dogs order’ came into effect at the community site, in Aspal Close, last Friday.
The order makes it an offence for dog owners not to clear up after their pets at the reserve.
Chairman of Beck Row, Holywell Row and Kenny Hill Parish Council, Kay Sallis, said: “In just a small area we flagged up 30 piles of poo. It was a horrendous amount.
“The majority of people are very good and lots of people we speak to are quite appalled by the amount. It’s just a small minority.
“It’s a nature reserve for everyone to enjoy.”
Students at Beck Row Primary School drew signs to tell people about the new order and a design by 11-year-old Lauren Rogers was selected to be installed at the reserve.
Lauren said: “I drew a picture for the competition it had a lady who had stepped in poo and a picture of poo and her face was disgusted.”
She said people who fail to clear up after their pets did not make her very happy.
“They should clear it up. If people step in it it’s not very nice.” Said Lauren.
The order gives Environmental Health Officers and Police Community Support Officers the power to issue fixed penalty notices of up to £1,000.
