THE courageous ‘Few’ who fought in the aerial battle which became a pivotal point in World War Two were honoured by veterans and today’s servicemen and women on Sunday.

A short service was held by the Royal British Legion before personnel from RAF Honington, veterans and cadets paraded in Bury St Edmunds for Battle of Britain Day.

Standards were presented at the service at St Mary’s Church followed by a march past with the salute taken by Honington Station Commander Group Captain Andy Hall.

Personnel from RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath and members of the Royal Air Forces Association also took part.

A spokesman from Honington said: “It is vitally important that the nation remembers the effort and sacrifices made by those involved.

“It is poignant that this anniversary comes at a time when there are so many RAF personnel currently  on operations around the world.”

Cllr Tim Marks, Mayor of St Edmundsbury, said: “Bury has a close relationship with various RAF stations. It’s important that we keep those relationships alive.”
