A GROUP of 10 intrepid fund-raisers from around Bury St Edmunds has taken on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge – to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Mike King, Berni Daplyn, John Gilbert, Darren Carter, Craig Hamlet, Martin Harrington, Thomas McCarthy, Gary Gree, Fred Welham and Tee Barter took on the 26-mile endurance course tackling three mountains on May 26 with the aim of raising £6,000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign by October.

Mike said the group members – who also included walkers from Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool – had all been touched by someone affected by cancer.

He said: “When you reach middle age you reflect on how people have been kind to you and you think, why can’t I do that for everyone else. Everyone who did the 26 miles of ‘torture’ thought that way.

“I’d also like to thank Barry and Sarah from Thurston Post Office for helping with the collection.”
