TRIBUTES have been paid to a 31-year-old mother who has died following a three-year battle with cancer.

Cloé Gibney, of Juniper Road, Bury St Edmunds, was assistant manager at the former Caffe Uno and also ran the Tollgate pub.

The mum-of-one, who died last Thursday, has been described as a ‘fun loving and determined person who loved life, her young son and fought her illness to the very end’.

Born and bred in Bury, Miss Gibney attended King Edward VI School before travelling the world.

She spent a lot of her time in the Alps, where she worked for three seasons.

When she returned home aged 23, she became assistant manager at Caffe Uno, in Abbeygate Street.

She later ran the Tollgate pub for five years.

After leaving the pub, she was diagnosed with cancer which she fought for three years.

During her illness, she helped organise a children’s fun run, Little Legs for Life, in Nowton Park last August in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The event attracted 150 youngsters and raised about £5,000.

Her mum Cindy, 61, said: “Cloé just loved life and liked to socialise.

“She loved her son Eddie (aged six) who was her life.

“She was a lovely person.

“She also enjoyed partying and going out to eat. She would often say ‘let’s go to a nice restaurant and have lunch’.

“When she travelled, the Alps was her favourite place. She would have loved to have gone back there to settle down.

“We want to thank all of the nurses at St Nicholas Hospice Care, who were wonderful and so good to Cloé.”

Her sister Polly, 26, added: “She was fun loving and definitely my soul mate, best friend and sister.

“She received quite a hard prognosis at the very beginning but she gave everything a go and fought to the very end.

“Cloé was very determined and set a good example to others who were dealing with cancer.

“She got to meet her niece Florence who is eight weeks old.”

Miss Gibney also leaves her dad Gabe, brother Anthony and partner Guy Cannon.

Her funeral will be held on Monday February 13 – the day after what would have been her 32nd birthday – at St Mary’s Church at 2pm.
