Charity opens therapy centre
A BURY St Edmunds based charity is expanding the services it offers by opening a new therapy centre in the town.
Focus12, a rehabilitation centre in Risbygate Street which aims to help people overcome addiction through total abstinence, has opened The Annexe at 88 St John’s Street to specialise in non-addiction related counselling services.
Chip Somers, Focus12 CEO, said: “We have noticed over the past few years that the demand for general counselling has increased significantly and we therefore believe the time is right to branch out and expand what we offer.”
The Annexe is open full time and has qualified counsellors offering one to one therapy on a range of issues from anxiety, stress and depression to eating disorders and relationship breakdowns.
It aims to be accessible to all who need it by offering counselling with a flexible pricing structure, up to £50, and, because of support from an anonymous source, is entirely grant funded for the first two years, after which it is hoped it will be self-supporting.
Mr Somers said: “We have recently been seeing as many as 25 people a week for counselling for general issues such as stress and anxiety at our existing centre and demand seems to be steadily growing. This new centre will mean clients can benefit from the Focus12 expertise on a one to one basis, in individual sessions.”
The Annexe will be official opened in two weeks time by someone from the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Anyone interested in making an appointment with a therapist there should contact Focus12 on 01284 701702.
