A CHARITY which celebrates and supports the companionship of animals has received a £400 boost from a supermarket giant.
Our Special Friends was presented with sponsorship from Waitrose on Tuesday and will use the money to promote its services.
The aim of the organisation is for people to enjoy contact with companionable animals where at all possible and especially when facing life’s challenges.
The charity is run by vet Belinda Johnston, of Higham, who specialises in the practical and emotional support of the human-companion animal bond in all circumstances but particularly in the elderly, vulnerable and socially isolated.
She will point people in the right direction of services or to help that may be available for needs such as finding a new pet and practical help with an existing pet.
The group can also facilitate a visiting pet to brighten a person’s day, support with a difficult decision and pet bereavement support.
Mrs Johnston plans to spend the £400 on flyers to reach more people.
For further information or to volunteer for the organisation, contact her on (01284) 810220, email belinda@ourspecialfriends.com or visit www.ourspecialfriends.com
