Abbey group

THE Abbey Gardens Friends group was formally established this week.

The group, which seeks to promote and enhance the gardens, elected a chairman and ratified a constitution at a meeting in The Athenaeum, Bury, on Wednesday night.

Chairman Sophie Roebuck said: “We’re delighted we had such a good meeting and are greatly encouraged by so many people becoming members. We’re looking forward to celebrating the centenary of the gardens this year.”
