Scouts, be prepared...
With Scouting celebrating its centenary year, the Bury Free Press is running an appeal to raise money for the district’s Bradfield Park campsite, in Bradfield Combust. We’re asking readers to help us to raise £12,000 to help improve facilities that will allow young Beavers to camp overnight. Mildenhall village sign
Mildenhall is well-known because of its RAF base which, along with nearby RAF Lakenheath, is home to a large contingent of USAF personnel. However, the area has a rich history dating back to Roman times and beyond. In 1943, a farm worker made one of the most significant archeologiacal finds of the region, unearthing the famous Mildenhall Treasure - a hoard of Roman silver now housed at the British Museum in London.

The Borough Council and the people of Bury St Edmunds are extremely proud of their twinning links with Compiegne in France and Kevelaer in Germany.
The Borough Council and the people of Bury St Edmunds are extremely proud of their twinning links with Compiegne in France and Kevelaer in Germany.
Compiegne in France
Bury St Edmunds was twinned with Compiegne in 1967. Compiegne is a similar sized town to Bury, located in the Oise District of France fairly near to Paris. Regular exchange visits have become a feature of life in both towns. The drive for the exchange trips and in maintaining these visits comes from the 'Friends of...' groups established in both Bury and Compiegne.
Kevelaer in Germany
In 1981, Bury St Edmunds was twinned with Kevelaer, a German town located close to the Dutch border between the River Maas in Holland and the River Rhine in Germany. The idea for the twinning of Bury and Kevelaer came from existing contacts in the Royal Air Force stations at Honington and Laarbruch.
