The conversion of listed buildings at Thetford Grammar School into a new sixth form and drama study centre has won a major award for its Cambridge-based architects.
AC Architects won a regional silver award in the International Green Apple Awards, which recognise environmental best practice around the world.
The award was presented to Sherry Armstrong, director of AC Architects, and Phil McGahan, the school bursar, by professor David Bellamy at the Tower of London last week.
Architects used traditional skills to convert and extend The Cloisters at the school.
The sixth form centre, shaped around the former stable yard and near-derelict 300-year-old stable buildings, makes use of glass and wood to complement the flint and stone construction.
Mr McGahan said: "The school is delighted the project has won this prestigious accolade.
"AC Architects designed this innovative scheme with great sensitivity and the designs highlight the school's principle of seeking to harmonise the strengths of the past and the opportunities of the future in all it undertakes."
