A new landlord is hoping to revive a pub which had been hit hard by the smoking ban.
Mike Anderson has taken up the challenge at the Elephant and Castle, in Bury St Edmunds, after 28 years' experience in the industry.
He previously worked as a bar manager and supervisor at a holiday camp and in pubs and clubs in London and the South of France.
But until he took over the Hospital Road pub two weeks ago, the closest he had been to Bury was trips to Ipswich to watch football matches.
Mr Anderson, 48, said: "It was a mixture of emotions and excitement, as I have come to a place where I know nobody.
"The trouble with the pub is it's had so many holding managers the place has been run down and it does need a lot of building up."
To attract more people, Mr Anderson has installed Sky Sports, he is opening the pub on weekdays from 11am until midnight, and hopes to be serving food within three weeks.
He is also planning to get the garden back to its former glory.
Former landlords Marian and Gareth Thomas left the Elephant and Castle in January, after suffering from a lack of trade which was made worse by the smoking ban.
