A trend towards last-minute house moves has boosted Glasswells' domestic storage work in Bury St Edmunds.
Householders have been seeking urgent storage of household items in order to move quickly and secure a sale in the challenging housing market.

Paul Glasswell, managing director, was handed the keys to a £750,000 extension of the company's warehouse in Kempson Way last week.

He said: "We are experiencing a growing trend for last-minute household storage requirements.

"Many people are calling on us to urgently store their goods in order to secure their house sales."

After five months work, builders signed off the 10,000sqft extension to give Glasswells 67,000sqft of storage space.

Originally built in 1999, the storage and distribution centre now boasts full security, moisture and temperature controls and a high-tech stock management system.

Mr Glasswell said: "People are moving out of their old homes into rented accommodation while they wait for their own house purchase to be finalised.

"Our emphasis is on flexibility, cost-effectiveness and the ability to react quickly to customers' needs."

Storing everything from cars and clothing to tiles and glasswear, the centre will also support the firm's new 73,000sqft showroom in Ipswich, which is set to open later this year.
