A new book to help people with depression and anxiety has been launched by a couple who run a cognitive behaviour therapy service in Bury St Edmunds.
The West Suffolk CBT Service, on Angel Hill, was set up two years ago by James Manning and Nicola Ridgeway who have brought out the book to offer a simple but effective guide to people needing cognitive behaviour therapy.

This is the first of a series of books dealing with various issues that can affect people.

James Manning, managing director, said: "When we set up there was no real dedicated service for CBT and it was urgently needed. The NHS has now started its own programmes."

The company which has three therapists helps people with anxiety, depression, personality problems, anger and obessive compulsive disorder..

Dr Manning said that some clients were unable to use some of the books available as they often contained too much information.

The new book Think About Your Thinking to Stop Depression offered help which contained the most up to date scientific research but is not challenging to read.

"We started trialling it with patients and found we had reduced therapy rates. Clients gave us feedback and we developed the book from that.

"People who feel depressed can't read a lot of material and that can make them feel more depressed."

James and Nicola teach all over the country and hold workshops and Nicola is chairman of the Eastern Branch of the British Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapy.

The second book is out at the end of the month and titled How to Help Your Loved One Overcome Depression.

It is available from Amazon and Waterstones and other outlets.
