NEW signing Liam Barrett is likely to be included in Bury Town FC's starting line-up to face Brentwood at Ram Meadow tomorrow (ko 3pm).
The striker, who has been released by Ipswich Town FC, signed an 18-month contract with the Blues on Friday, turning down offers from two other Ryman League clubs.

"We are very pleased that Liam decided to join Bury, despite being offered attractive financial packages from two other league sides," said Town team manager Richard Wilkins.

A knee injury prevented the 18-year-old from joining his new team-mates immediately, but he is expected to have recovered in time to spearhead the attack as Town look to continue their impressive Ryman League Division One North home form.

After 23 league games so far this season, Town have lost two of their 11 home matches.

Sadly, the Blues form on the road has been far below that expected this season. From 12 outings, the Blues have won just two games on their travels, with five draws and five defeats.

The latest away reverse came on Saturday, when the Blues were punished for a poor 20-minute spell and left Ware with nothing following a 3-2 defeat (report on page 63).

Not for the first time this season, Wilkins believes his side were on the end of some poor decisions from the officials in charge of the game.

"We deserved to come away with something," said Wilkins.

"We opened brightly and took the lead before a very poor decision by the assistant referee allowed Ware back into the game and they equalised.

"It was very disappointing. That decision was wrong and changed the game," he added.

However, Wilkins admitted that his side are too often guilty of switching off after scoring a goal.

"To put together a successful run to improve our league position, we need to eradicate this from our play," he said.

"We have to learn to be more resilient during the period after we have scored. Too often, we have conceded too quickly after scoring," said the Town chief.

"However, there are still plenty of points to pick up. We need to get a run going and there is no reason why we can't achieve that," he added.

Wilkins revealed that attacking midfielder James Tatham, who has recently returned to fitness following injury, is leaving the club after six seasons at Ram Meadow.

Town received a seven-day approach from Ridgeons League Premier Division side Mildenhall Town and following a meeting with the Recreation Way-based outfit on Wednesday, Tatham signed a contract until the end of the season.

Wilkins said he was sad to see Tatham leave, but understood the player's desire for regular first-team action.

"James has been a loyal player and he departs with our thanks for his contribution," he added.
