The Scrags have taken every opportunity to play all over the world, including seven gigs in New York and driving for around 12 hours to play in Sweden.

They came to London exactly a year a go and loved it so much they are now back in the country for a week to play the capital.

But after being poached by Bald Money Promotions, in Bury, they agreed to play at the Old Maltings, on April 24.

Joakim Forsgren, 26, who plays bass, said: "We are into apes and lately we've grown kind of a fetish with bald monkeys. One day, browsing the internet for pictures of bald monkeys, we found Bald Monkey Promotions and they helped us with the gig.

"Our drummer used to tell his parents we sound like the Rolling Stones after robbing them of all their money and throwing a basket full of oil over them. But, to be honest, that isn't really a good description."

The band are also playing a session for Bury-based Planet Beet while they are in the area.

Other members include drummer Fredrik Berglund, 25, guitarist Jani Lehtinen, 23, and vocalist Antonio Fryk, 25.

As well as touring, The Scrags are working on a debut album being recorded at a small Swedish vintage studio where some of Sweden's best acts, like Bob Hund, Sci Fi-Skane and the Hellacopters, have recorded – Traxton Recording.

The album will be released on Alleycat Records in Scandinavia, Germany and Spain in September and they are currently looking for UK distribution.
