Music performance students at West Suffolk College have combined to make six bands with sounds from heavy metal and funk latin to indie and progressive rock.

The bands, involving 17 students, have been gigging for about two years but this is the first time they have all come together.

It is hoped the event will help people to gain appreciation of the different styles out there.

Afrika Green, student body representative, said: "There's lots of bands around but I think this is special because we have got so many different styles. It's really going to open people's minds.

"There's a lot of talent – it's people at their best."

It was originally agreed to put on the gig as part of a college assignment and they have since had to arrange everything themselves from the venue, the lighting and sound.

They have also had to advertise the gig and have made T-shirts and CDs to be sold on the night.

The students were due to record the gig to capture the excitement.

Afrika said: "Everyone's worked really hard to make sure there's every style you can imagine down there. It's all been a little bit hectic."

Bands included Something DSRR, Alien Massacre, There is Hope, The Adam Broad, Affy Green and Ryan Houghton Band, Kurt & Josh and Ted Driscoh.

The gig is at Pot Black Snooker Club, in Bury, on Thursday, May 8.
