Almost two years on from when they first got together, a Norwich band is returning to Bury St Edmunds with their new sound.
Monroes started off playing indie music but their sound has now evolved incorporating their influences of 80s music and reggae.

The band got one of their biggest breaks when they were given a last-minute opportunity to play with The View.

Members of Monroes include drummer and vocalist Lenny Rout, 19, Jamie Delaney, 18, who plays guitar and vocals, and David Jarmy, 19, who plays bass and vocals.

Lenny said: "We like to think no-one else really sounds like us and that no-one else is doing what we are doing.

"We've started to play quite a few more gigs recently and we are trying to book up really short tours of about a week long."

Since they have started out, the band have played gigs in Ipswich, Norwich, Bury, Cambridge, Lincoln and London, but one of their favourites was supporting The View.

The band responded to a last-minute plea put out by The View on Radio One for local bands in Norwich to bring them their CDs, after their usual support band dropped out.

More than 90 CDs were handed in at the University of East Anglia and the Monroes were chosen to play just two hours before the gig.

The Monroes have just finished recording three new songs and are planning to release them on a CD soon for people to catch up on what they sound like now.

Catch the band play at Studio 3, in Bury, on January 18 or to find out more, visit www.myspace.com/monroes1
