A covers band are still going strong more than 12 years after they first played together to pay tribute to a close friend.
Macca, made up of five members from Newmarket, Cambridge and New Zealand, get their name from three family members who make up the band – two MacDonald brothers, Paul and Carl, and their father Colin.
Although the line up has changed slightly since, the band formed when a close friend died in a tragic accident.
Macca, formerly known as Colour, played at a tribute show to raise money in 1996 and have been together ever since.
Carl said: "We found that we liked it and carried on. It was the push we needed to get our act together.
"We did promote ourselves heavily doing originals but, as great as it is, it costs more and, when you play covers, it is so much nicer to play a really great pub and have a good night."
Other members of the band include Jay Morriss, who plays guitar, vocals and percussion, and Ed Kerr, on drums and percussion.
Over the last year the band have taken a break from their own songs and found they no longer have to advertise for gigs and functions as they are generally booked through word of mouth.
Since the band started, they have played at the same pub U2 performed their first gig, played to more than 3,000 people at Newmarket Town Football Club, and played at special occasions such as Carl's wedding and Ed's 40th birthday.
Next month, they are planning to record a sample of their live set, with samples going on their website.
