Three firefighters at RAF Mildenhall are expected to complete a gruelling mountain climbing challenge today.
Alan Coldwell, Jerry Myles and Chris Gould, who work for the British Defence Fire Service at the base, began the Three Peak Challenge yesterday.

They are joined by Simon Dowding, who previously worked at RAF Mildenhall for 12 years, but now works at Wattisham Airfield in the same occupation.

The climbing feat involves the quartet having to reach the peaks of Ben Nevis, in Scotland, Mount Snowden, in Wales, and Scaffell Pike, in England, within 24 hours.

Mr Coldwell, of Lakenheath, said: "We wanted to do something together, which would be a challenge and outdoors. It's a well-known challenge and thought we would give it a go."

All four have used the challenge as an opportunity to raise money for causes close to their hearts.

Mr Coldwell is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, where his 18-month daughter Rose received treatment for a skull growth abnormality.

Mr Myles is donating money to Cancer Research, as both his parents have cancer, and Mr Gould is collecting for the John Grant Special School, which his autistic son attends.

Mr Dowding will split the money he raises between the three causes. They hope to raise £1,000 between them.

To sponsor them, call Alan Coldwell on 07900 204247.
